As you may already know, your health data is stored locally on your Andaman7 app.
The fact that it is stored locally has several advantages:
- Privacy: like any other health data that you store in Andaman7, documents are NOT stored in a central place (nor in a cloud-based storage). Andaman7 cannot access your data.
- Accessibility: documents stored locally are always accessible to you, even if you are not connected to the internet. Also, if you retrieved your document from an online portal, storing a copy of it in your app guarantees that you’ll always keep an access to it, even if the portal removes it.
Andaman7 supports many formats of documents; PDF, Image files (JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP), Text, doc, CSV and all documents supported natively by Google (on Android) or Apple (on iOS). Usually, modern phones and tablets have enough memory to store those lightweight documents.
However, in the case of medical imaging, the original data captured (often in a format call “DICOM”) may be very large. For these special cases, we have a dedicated data type in the app called “Online documents”.
“Online documents” are in fact direct access links to documents such as medical images, videos, reports, etc. located outside of your Andaman7 app, online. The files themselves are not stored locally on your phone/tablet, which is useful to save memory. Note that you will need an internet connection to access Online documents, and that they will remain available only as long as the documents are not moved or deleted from their location.
You can also store a lightweight copy (in JPEG, PNG, etc) of the most important images as a “local document” in your app.
